“Fire of Birds” (Live in Atlanta - 11/6/10) | DM Stith
This is a recording of the very first song and performance I had ever heard (or seen) of DM Stith, at the show in Atlanta last year. I had absolutely no idea who he was or what he was going to sound like. I remember very well that there was a certain point during this song that I felt something in my stomach that I rarely ever get from new (though I suppose he wasn’t “new” at that point anymore) artists, much less from the very first time experiencing their music. I’m not sure how to describe this feeling I had, but it was a good feeling. The kind that you risk flooring yourself if you let it take over you.
I believe it gave me a slight chill as well, but I might be embellishing a bit there. Or perhaps it was due to the cold weather.
If you want, you can download his whole set (four songs) from this show here.
When I saw Sufjan, DM opened for him, and I remember that this was the first song he played. I grabbed a pen from my purse and wrote his name on my hand so I wouldn’t forget. His voice is so different in person, and it’s so cool to listen to him just play a guitar and sing.
